Our history and our values.

Sioux Merchant Patrol Inc. opened its doors in 1950 under the direction of Lester Kearney. Lester was a County Constable, former Navy sailor and had experience working for a private security company while on assignment in California. Upon returning home to South Dakota, he recognized the demand for private security services and began providing patrol service on foot to companies in downtown Sioux Falls. Our company was founded as a family owned and operated business to provide patrol and stationary security guard services.

In 1986, Lester sold the company to his son, David Kearney. David had worked for his father since he was old enough to drive, and had experience as a County Constable. He took the company that was his father's pride and built a full line of security services that no one else offered in the area. The company expanded into more services such as bodyguard services, executive protection and so much more to keep up with the changing times and client needs. David's leadership allowed us to work for and protect Charles Barkley, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, Ivana Trump and even had the privilege to provide security for the President while staying in Sioux Falls.

When David suddenly passed in 2011, his nephews Jesse and Joshua Callahan took the helm ensuring that Sioux Merchant Patrol would stay a family operated, locally-owned business that cares about its clients, employees and community. Joshua brought his formal criminal justice education, years of work experience in the law enforcement industry both inside and outside of Sioux Merchant Patrol. Jesse added his business education and a decade of upper-level management experience in both sales and operations capacities. With their combined experience and Sioux Merchant Patrol's dedicated staff, the company has improved in operational efficiency, implemented the latest in security technology and continued expanding service offerings provided. Sioux Merchant Patrol continues to have a bright future under the third generation's stewardship.
